Finding a skilled financial planner can be overwhelming and confusing, but there is a distinction between those that call themselves “financial planners” and those that qualify as CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals.  The certification process is a rigorous one that requires a great deal of time, commitment, education and experience.  Aaron Archambo has met the demanding requirements to be called a CFP® professional.

On average it takes from 12-18 months to meet the coursework requirement needed to sit for the CFP® exam.  The coursework must come from a CFP Board Registered Program.  A bachelor’s degree or higher, from an accredited college or university, must also be attained either before or within 5 years after passing the exam.  The exam consists of answering 170 questions over two 3-hour sessions in one day, where one must successfully demonstrate comprehensive knowledge in financial planning, tax planning, risk management, retirement planning, and estate planning.  In March of 2020, the pass rate for the exam was 63%.

Experience is also vital in the role to becoming certified.  This can be accomplished by completing 6,000 hours of professional experience related to the professional planning process, or 4,000 hours of apprenticeship experience.  This must be completed within 10 years before or 5 years after successful completion of CFP® exam.
